What is the best way to dry flowers?

Answered By Eric Famulary, Editor

The best way to dry flowers is through the use of desiccant wherein flowers will be buried until they dry. In this way, the colors and shapes of the flowers are preserved in the dried condition.

Nevertheless, the most common way of drying flowers is by hanging or air drying. The leaves of the flowers are removed and it will be hung in an upside down manner in dry, warm and dark place where its moisture contents will be greatly reduced. It is never placed on damp areas such as porches, garages and basements where the specimens can be ruined. The methods can last for one or two weeks but it could exceed depending on the cut stem moisture and presence of humidity. In this method the flowers can be dried in their different stages whether it is still a bud, partially opened of fully mature.
